How we started

The High Spirits Hospitality staff and CEO, Tammy Johnson, felt the weighing impact of COVID-19 on the hospitality industry and the food and beverage business owners. More importantly, the shocking exposure of racial injustices throughout major cities and the ongoing rallies to support the black community resonated with the company leadership. 

Tammy began researching the number of black-owned businesses within the Upstate, specifically surrounding the food and beverage industry, and birthed the idea for a wine-tasting event to support minority entrepreneurs. After all, she understood the hardships in building a business but knew these owners faced the kind of adversity she would never experience.  

After several months of brainstorming with colleagues, the High Spirits Events brand took ownership of an event that would include all minority business owners from anywhere in the country to further celebrate the diversity within the industry and applaud all who have overcome tremendous obstacles to achieve success and reach their dreams. 

If a wine lover can discover a new product, which also supports small business, then we call that a 'win-win.'
